Safety in the Countryside

A new countryside code was developed as a result of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. Follow our link to the Countryside Council for Wales Website to access more guidelines on safety in the countryside.

Three seagulls, two ponies and a sheep dog will be the new faces of the countryside code, thanks to the creation of new “Creature Comforts” characters by Aardman, the Academy Award winning animation company. The animals reflect the most important messages of the countryside code, which is designed to encourage people to get out and enjoy our countryside.

Respect – Protect – Enjoy

  • Be Safe – plan ahead and follow any signs
  • Leave gates and property as you find them
  • Protect plants and animals, and take your litter home
  • Keep dogs under close control
  • Consider other people

Follow the Countryside Code wherever you go. You will get the best out of the countryside and help to maintain it now and for the future.
